Juan Pablo Sarmiento Barletti is a Peruvian Social Anthropologist at CIFOR’s Equity, Gender, Justice and Tenure research team. He has carried out collaborative research with indigenous Amazonian men and women for the past 12 years, on multiple aspects of the impact of natural resource extraction on their communities, and on their participation in different related decision-making spaces. More recently, he has carried out research on the implementation of climate change initiatives as part of a rights-based approach that enables environmental justice for indigenous and local communities. Juan Pablo is also a board member of SHARE Amazonica, an organization dedicated to implementing intercultural collaborative research projects in the Amazon.
