Urban landscapes’ role in conservation and biodiversity in Gran Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
Researcher Antonia Suero is carrying out a study analyzing the urban green system of Greater Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. She’s exploring its metabolic aspects, ecological infrastructure, biodiversity, expanse in both public and private areas, and most frequent animal and plant species.
The objective of this research is to seek solutions for the conservation of these spaces, and new opportunities for natural heritage – because a city without squares, parks, or spaces for casual encounters would be environmentally, socially and economically poor. Green spaces not only contribute to cities’ economies; they also beautify these areas and are essential for the well-being of citizens.
