BACKGROUND

The GLF is the first global movement of its kind and the world’s largest science-led multi-sectoral platform on landscapes, bringing together world leaders, climate negotiators, policy makers, development practitioners, private sector representatives. Since 2013, over 25,000 stakeholders from more than 3,000 organizations and 110 countries have engaged with the GLF. Over the next five years, with major support from the German government and with the support of strategic partners, the GLF will grow, enrich the discussion. Our next event is GLF Nairobi—Forest and Landscape Restoration in #Africa: Prospects and Opportunities, 29-30 August, Nairobi, Kenya.

GLF NAIROBI, KENYA

The GLF regional conference “Landscape Restoration in Africa: Prospects and Opportunities” will seek to maximize the dialogue that has already achieved such success. Through the prism of rights, finance, food and livelihoods and measuring progress, the conference will focus attention on to areas with the greatest potential for deliverable results. The event will amplify the political momentum already amassed behind landscape restoration and drive forward regional cooperation. Rooted in cutting-edge environmental science, the event will spark a grassroots movement across Africa, designed to achieve dynamic, inclusive and sustainable development across the continent.

KEY MESSAGES:

    • Showcase Africa’s successes in landscape restoration. Widespread deforestation, land and resource degradation are testing the continent. But people and nations are taking action at every level. Share their stories and inspire a global community!

    • To make this a success, Africa requires stakeholders at every level from youth, policy makers, academia, NGOs, private sector and media. We need you!

    • There are a number of easy ways for you to join and spark this grassroots movement. Connect, Learn, Share and ACT around landscape restoration in Africa so you can help carve the collective path forward. It all starts with GLF Nairobi. See you there!

    • How to participate: Apply to competitions, youth programs, media training seminars, test your knowledge on landscape restoration through a quiz, tell us what you’d like to hear, send a speaker your questions so he/she can answer on stage, participate in polls, participate in webinars, tell us about your success story translate success stories and key event takeaways to your community and much more.
