Researcher
Center for Climate Change, Institut Teknologi Bandung

Safwan Hadi is a research fellow at the Center for Climate Change, Institut Teknologi Bandung. He received his first degree in Geophysics & Meteorology from Institut Teknologi Bandung(ITB), Indonesia. His MSc and PhD were obtained from the Department of Oceanography, University of Hawaii, USA. His research works are related to ocean hydrodynamics, sea level rise and coastal inundation.

His research on sea level rise and coastal inundation at Jakarta Bay coastal areas started in 2007. Hereinafter, he had performed several joint research projects with the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST) on coastal inundation caused by land subsidence at Pantai Mutiara, North Jakarta in 2010-2011, 2012-2013, and 2015-2016. Currently he is doing research on ocean hazard caused by climate change and its impact to marine safety and fisheries.

During his tenure at Institute Teknologi Bandung, Professor Hadi served as Head of the Department of Geophysics and Meteorology (1993-1996), Head of Center for Marine Research (1996-1999), Head of Center for Marine and Coastal Development (2005-2007), and Head of Oceanography Research Grup (2007-2012). He is currently retired from the Department of Oceanography, Faculty of Earth Sciences and Technology, ITB, but still serves as Liaison officer for development of Marine Technology Cooperation Research Center (Korea-Indonesia) at ITB’s Campus, Cirebon since 2016.
