This Landscape Talk will demonstrate how public-private-civil society partnerships can help address complex challenges such as deforestation, using the example of the Cocoa and Forests Initiative.
Launched in 2017, this multi-stakeholder partnership, facilitated by IDH the Sustainable Trade Initiative and the World Cocoa Foundation (WCF) has enabled top cocoa-producing countries, Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana, to sign joint Frameworks of Action with 30 leading chocolate and cocoa companies. It is an unprecedented multi-stakeholder effort that aims to eliminate illegal cocoa production in national parks, in line with stronger enforcement of national forest policies and development of alternative livelihoods for affected farmers.
