Chido making her first speech at the age of 16 in Nairobi, Kenya at the World Youth Employment Conference in 2002 - Gunter Pauli

Chido discovered that mushrooms grow fast. In less than 2 weeks she could cultivate her own food. She realized when she had food for her blind grandma and younger brother she would not have to tolerate abuse. All fourteen of her fellow students though were married within months, sold off by distant family to older men. She was fortunate to be adopted but insisted that she would be given a chance to teach other girls to farm mushrooms in her home country.
