Farming for Future - Giving Youth a Perspective
Inspired by a newspaper article, Lawrence Afere tackled the future himself. Scared of the prognosis of more than 20 million highly skilled young criminals by 2020 in Nigeria, he decided to provide youth with a sustainable perspective through with farming - and started his social enterprise.
The idea first created a small venture of 15 people, called Youth Farm Project, but used its potential and quickly outgrew all expectations. By now, Springboard schooled over 2000 farmers and 500 rural women, leading to an establishment of 1500 farms and 300 village enterprises and is expanding.
With its youth farmers programme and 500 involved youth farmers and the Farm to School Project, involving more than 2000 high-school students, Lawrence works across all landscapes and boundaries for a sustainable, ecological and right use of our nature.
