Mercy Juma is a multi-award-winning Journalist currently working as a Senior Bilingual Correspondent at BBC News, Africa. In 2017, she became the first recipient of the inaugural Michael Elliott Award for Excellence in African Storytelling by The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) in partnership with ONE and the Elliott family. This continent-wide award honors African journalists who strive to strengthen people’s voices and illuminate the transformational change taking place on the continent. She was among the four 2015 United Nations Dag Hammarskjöld Fund for Journalists Fellows. Mercy is also a strategic communicator, speaker and moderator and has presented on various platforms, including the United Nations General Assembly, the International Journalism Festival and several major Global Health, Science and Climate Change conferences hosted by World Health Organization (WHO), Partnership for Maternal Newborn and Child Health (PMNCH), Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), COREGroup DC, among others. She holds a Master’s degree in International Relations from the United States International University – Africa. One of her biggest commitments is to create a culture of equality, equity, inclusion, and diversity.
