A long journey

Description

Cape Verdean coasts are the third most important nesting site worldwide (and Africa\'s most important) for Loggerhead sea turtles, a vulnerable species which is locally critically endangered due to poaching activities and habitat destruction. Pictured here is a female found stranded quite a ways from the water in the early morning. At nigh time, they crawl to the beach to lay their eggs but sometimes end up searching too far for the right place, thus tiring up and sometimes dying of exhaustion.
