Shot during a dust storm in the Trarza region of South-Western Mauritania, this pictures features a majestic acacia tree, one of the very few specimens that survived land degradation in this region. In Mauritania, the combined effects of climate change-induced droughts and overgrazing are shrinking vegetation cover, thus increasing the risks of sand encroachment on human settlements. The EbA South project - led jointly by UN Environment and the Chinese Academy of Sciences - is trying to curtail
