The Wapichannao are one of nine indigenous nations in Guyana. We occupy the southern part of Guyana in the Amazon region. Every year during the month of September we celebrate our indigenous heritage month. We are very proud of our indigeneity. We have been sustainability using mother nature, especially our Amazon rainforest for generations, and we intend to continue. We are aiming to maintain and pass down traditional knowledge to younger generation. This photo shows a young Wapichan dancing a traditional dance, decked in his traditional wear with his pet macaw. This is a representation that we will continue to be strong keepers of the Amazon.
