Policy Officer Rural Development, Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture

Patrick Herlant serves as a Policy Officer in the The Commission’s Directorate-General for International Cooperation and Development (DG DEVCO) in Brussels, focusing on rural transformation, food systems and territorial approaches.

Mainly tasked with sector policy analysis and policy coordination, he holds a key position in inclusive rural transformation and sustainable food systems within DEVCO. He also co-chairs the Global Donor Platform for Rural Development.

Patrick Herlant can look back at vast development expertise, having designed and managed a portfolio of Agriculture and Rural Development investments in Tunisia, Armenia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Albania (IFAD).
He has also provided thematic support to the EU delegation in Turkey and Haiti on food security, agriculture, environment and rural development. For three years, he has served as an Associate expert at the FAO’s Forestry Division in Haiti and Bolivia.

In addition to a Masters in Agricultural Engineering (’82), Herlant also holds Masters in Tropical Forestry (’96) and an MBA in International Business (’03).
