Indonesia Representative and Program Manager, Fairventures Worldwide Panduh Tukat, a member of the Ngaju Dayak people, was born in the village of Sepang near the Kahayan river of Borneo’s Gunung Mas district, Indonesia – a landscape he still feels very close to. Considered a less attractive choice for young people at that time, Panduh nevertheless decided to take up professional training in wood work and carpentry in Kalimantan (Borneo) and later on the island of Java. Through a scholarship program, Panduh further developed his skills and qualified as technical teacher in Germany. After his return to Borneo and Indonesia, Panduh trained future carpenters at a technical college and later started his own successful business constructing wooden houses. Throughout those years, Panduh was driven by one question: How come Borneo – an island so rich in wood – cannot make use of this precious resource in a way that helps its communities to prosper? Since 2011, Panduh has been one of the driving forces behind One Million Trees – an initiative by Fairventures Worldwide to improve the quality of Borneo’s environment as well as its economy with the help of agroforestry systems linked to sustainable supply chains. In 2017, Panduh was named Indonesia Representative and Program Manager for Fairventures.
