Julian Quan is principal scientist at University of Greenwich, Natural Resources Institute in London, UK. He has extensive expertise on land rights and land policy, rural institutions, policy and governance in developing countries, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa and also in Latin America. Currently Dr. Quan works as Land Tenure and Policy Adviser with DFID (the UK Department for International Development) and coordinates the DFID funded LEGEND programme, which focuses on promoting responsible land governance surrounding agricultural investments and contributing to more effective country level interventions and better land policies globally. LEGEND includes a portfolio of pilot projects in African countries testing new approaches to including communities in responsible investments in companies’ areas of operation: mapping and protecting land rights, improving due diligence and community engagement by partnering with civil society organizations.
