Eliud N.Kimani

Thika River Basin Community

Eliud N.Kimani is a 70+ years elder living and farming in the Upper Thika Basin at the Ndakaini Dam providing 85% of Nairobi’s drinking water. He was educated and worked as a mechanical engineer while seeing the world, his environment and the Thika River change since the ’50s. Eliud has been intensely involved in conservation work at individual level and in the NGO world. His efforts are more noticeable at Ndakaini Dam where over 200 acres was afforested and the community capacitated to plant 500,000 seedlings. Until recently, he was chairman of the Upper Thika Water Resources Users Association. From the very beginning, Eliud has been involved in rehabilitation of the Thika River Basin and part of a formidable conservation movement dubbed “Njururi”, a community of problem holders working on organization of unprecedented collaboration towards “beautiful rivers with clean, clear and sufficient water in a reclaimed, restored and protected wetland and river ecosystem.”
