Horst Freiberg is a restoration expert who is a forester by training and considered the “father of the Bonn Challenge”, a global effort to bring 150 million hectares of the world’s deforested and degraded land into restoration by 2020, and 350 million hectares by 2030. He formerly served as the Head of the Forest Division at the Federal Ministry of the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU).
