Tunicia Phillips-Jegels

Award winning reporter, journalist
Mail & Guardian (M&G)

Tunicia Phillips-Jegels is an award-winning reporter in South Africa where she currently works for the prestigious investigative weekly, the Mail & Guardian (M&G). She is an Adamela Fellow supported by the Open Society Foundation to spend the next year reporting on the environment, climate change and business. With a ten-year background in radio, she was selected twice to be an Earth Journalism Network fellow and joined a panel at CoP25 with Climate Tracker and the African Development Bank in Madrid, Spain. This is where she called for the narratives in African climate change reporting to adapt to context and for climate messaging to be made simple for ordinary people. She is a former news editor and a grant recipient from the Taco Kuiper investigative journalism fund as well as a grantee at the Forum for African Investigative Reporters (FAIR). Tunicia Phillips is currently signed to Pan Macmillan to publish a book on police brutality, and corruption in South Africa’s marginalised communities. When she is not doing that, she trains journalists in climate change and energy reporting.
