Biologist

Thiago de Sá graduated in biology with emphasis on environmental resources from the Federal University of Bahia, in Brazil, where currently occupies the position of biologist. Has been working for the past six years with unconventional edible plants, popularized in Brazil by the acronym PANC. Has a master’s degree in course in plant genetic resources where is studying diversity and nutritional value of purslane (Portulaca oleracea L.). Also, member of Rede PANC Bahia, an articulation of institutions, professionals, and social movements of the state of Bahia that aims to rediscover, disseminate, and promote the use of unconventional edible plants. This network has a broad range of activities including surveys of food diversity in traditional communities and farmers, lectures, gastronomy workshops and participation in marketplaces of organic products. Research interests include food sovereignty, nutritional value of unconventional edible plants and valorisation of traditional knowledge associated with food diversity, consumption, gastronomy, and agroecology.
