Susy Gaby Díaz Gonzales is an indigenous lawyer from the Shipibo Konibo people in Peru’s Ucayali region. Originally from the community of Colonia del Caco, she relocated to Pucallpa in pursuit of education, as her homeland lacked secondary schooling. This move exposed her to pervasive discrimination against indigenous peoples—an experience that profoundly shaped her personal journey and reinforced her determination to overcome barriers. Currently, Díaz Gonzales serves as Executive Director of Bari Wesna Intercultural Association and coordinator of the GLFx Pichis-Pachitea Chapter, channeling her expertise into empowering her people and advancing Peru’s indigenous movement. As a dedicated advocate, Díaz Gonzales focuses on promoting and defending the rights of indigenous women, girls, and adolescents. She has played a pivotal role in protecting environmental defenders, particularly within indigenous communities. Her work reflects a lifelong commitment to justice, intercultural equity, and environmental protection.
