Stewart Maginnis has more than 35 years of broad experience in the area of natural resource management, biodiversity conservation and sustainable development, including 15 years full-time field work in Tanzania, Sudan, Ghana and Costa Rica. He has worked extensively in national and international natural resource and land use policy arenas supporting and advising governments, civil society and private sector-led implementation. He is a recognized leader in the conceptual development and promotion of “forest landscape restoration” (FLR), which has now been adopted by many national and international polices and initiatives, including the Bonn Challenge to bring 350 million hectares of impoverished and degraded landscapes into restoration over the forthcoming decade (2011-2030). He has also taken in a leadership role in defining and promoting the concept of Nature Based Solutions and he and his team are currently working on the development of practical guidance and standards for NBS approaches that can be operationalized at scale.
