Raquel Pereira Viana, a 23-year-old Wapichana leader from the Tabalascada Indigenous community in Roraima, Brazil, is the coordinator of the Indigenous Youth Department at the Indigenous Council of Roraima (CIR). Deeply connected to her culture, Raquel grew up engaging in family and community food production, which fosters ecosystem preservation and restoration. In 2019, she began mobilizing young people as her community’s youth coordinator. Recognized for her dedication, she joined CIR in 2020 as an advisor to the Youth Center and was later elected as the state coordinator for Indigenous youth in 2022. Now the Youth Department coordinator, Raquel leads initiatives to strengthen the Indigenous youth movement in Roraima. Her work focuses on coordination, advocacy and fostering engagement among young leaders to amplify their voices within the broader Indigenous movement.
