Nathalie Seddon is a Professor of Biodiversity in the Department of Zoology,
University of Oxford and Senior Associate of the International Institute for
Environment and Development, London. She is a tropical ecologist and evolutionary
biologist with over 20 years of field experience in South America and the Afrotropics. She
combines pure and applied approaches from the natural and social sciences to tackle
the challenge of understanding and conserving biodiversity, building socio-ecological
resilience in a warming world, and bringing the equitable protection of nature to the
centre of the sustainable development agenda. In 2017, she founded the Nature-based
Solutions Initiative, an international programme of research, policy advice and
education aimed at understanding the potential of Nature-based Solutions to global
challenges and, where appropriate, increasing their sustainable implementation
through the application of science.
