Mirey Atallah is the Chief of the Adaptation and Resilience Branch within UNEP’s Climate Change Division, leading initiatives on ecosystem-based adaptation, national adaptation planning, REDD+, and loss and damage, and spearheading eDorts on mobilizing private and public finance for climate action. The Climate Change Division supports governments with capacity building and technical assistance to develop and implement Paris Agreement-aligned policies and access finance for decarbonization and climate adaptation. UNEP’s work is driven by ambition, innovation, science, and a commitment to both global goals and national needs. Mirey’s role is central to advancing UNEP’s mission to align human well-being with planetary health through strategic guidance and impactful actions for climate stability. With over 20 years of experience, she has worked across the Arab States and over 20 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, focusing on Central Africa and the Congo Basin. Her career includes roles in private industry, public administration, NGOs, and the UN. Before joining UNEP in 2021, she was Chief Technical Advisor to the Minister of Finance in the Democratic Republic of Congo and served in various roles, including with the UNREDD Secretariat and as a GEF Regional Technical Advisor at UNDP. Mirey holds postgraduate degrees in Land Use Planning and Environmental Management and Policies. In her personal time, she enjoys literature and birdwatching
