Mayumi Sato is a current Master’s student in Sociology at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom and is a Fellow at the Samuel Centre for Social Connectedness. Having been officially engaged with the Youth in Landscapes Initiative (YIL) since GLF Bonn 2019, she has continued her involvement with YIL and the GLF to encourage youth-centered initiatives around landscape restoration and environmental rights. Mayumi brings a socially-minded and participatory approach to her academic and social justice vocation, and has worked on issues of gender equity, racial equality, aging, environmental safeguarding, refugee and forced migration, and sustainability in Asia, the Caribbean, and North America. She is passionate in using grassroots advocacy, photography and storytelling to raise underrepresented narratives to the fore, and aims to bridge her interests in research and community-based work for local and global impact.
