Mario is a forestry engineer with a master’s degree in environmental management, he has more than 24 years of experience working with the public sector of Costa Rica especially in relation to the administration of protected areas, forest resource management, wildlife management and freshwater basins integrated management. From SINAC, the institution for which he works within the Ministry of Environment and Energy of Costa Rica, he has had to lead the institutionalization of the biological corridors process in the country since 2006 and more recently the construction of the National Landscape Restoration Strategy 2021-2050. He has supported the construction of the Costa Rican chapter of the IUCN Restoration Barometer 2011-2020, participates as a country representative in the Restoration Monitoring Accelerator of the 20×20 Initiative and the Restoration Academy and has participated in different events of the Bonn Challenge Latin America. In his responsibilities as technical director of SINAC, he accompanies the different restoration projects of landscapes that SINAC lead at country level.
