Mariana Sarmiento Aparicio, is a Colombian environmental policy and management expert, founder, and CEO of Terrasos, a certified B Corporation dedicated to structuring and managing investments that protect and restore natural ecosystems. Under her leadership, Terrasos launched Latin America’s first Habitat Bank in 2014, pioneering outcome-based biodiversity offset solutions and advancing high-integrity biodiversity credit systems. Mariana serves on the Steering Committee of the Biodiversity Credits Alliance (BCA) and the International Advisory Panel on Biodiversity Credits (IAPB), and contributes to the Sustainable Business Bioeconomy Working Group. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Environmental Studies from Tulane University and a Master’s degree in Environmental Policy and Management from the Yale School of the Environment. Her work focuses on positioning biodiversity as essential infrastructure, ensuring its long-term protection and integration into sustainable economic models.
