Kanja Thuku is the Manager Sustainability and Certifications at Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA). KTDA is a private tea management agency owned by small holder tea farmers. The Agency currently manages 68 factories on behalf of more than 600,000 small holder tea farmers in Kenya. His main responsibilities include supervising sustainability programmes, systems and practices in tea farms and tea processing facilities. He has been working in the small holder tea industry for the last 24 years three of which he was based in Rwanda supporting small scale tea farmers compliance to sustainability requirements not only to make them resilient to climate change but also to be able to access international tea markets. Kanja holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture from the University of Nairobi and has undertaken training on management and leadership, logistics and fleet management, project management, good manufacturing and agricultural practices, sustainability and climate change smart systems among others.
