Gustavo is an environmental journalist and media trainer who specializes in data-driven journalism. In 2012, Faleiros launched InfoAmazonia, a digital map that uses satellite and other publicly available data to monitor the Amazon rainforest. He also helped create the Amazon Communications Network, which trained journalists and produced 200 stories about environmental issues in the region. The network sprang from his earlier accomplishments at the Brazilian environmental news site O Eco, where Faleiros worked his way up to executive editor. He introduced the use of satellite images and interactive maps in O Eco reports. Faleiros began his career as a reporter for Valor Econômico, Brazil’s main financial newspaper. He covered inflation, employment, infrastructure, energy, sanitation and transportation. In 2003, the World Bank awarded him a prize for a story on the water supply in rural areas near São Paulo. Faleiros earned a master’s degree in environment, politics and globalization from King’s College London.
