Yaigoje Apaporis Indigenous Territory

Gerardo belongs to the ~ Ibia ~ Basa people (People of Day) of the Colombian Amazon. He is a leader of the Yaigoje Apaporis Indigenous Territory, with more than 25 years of experience in organizational processes for the full exercise of the rights of Indigenous peoples to political and territorial self-determination, education and health. He is the former Secretary General and Secretary of Territory and Environment of the Association of Indigenous Authorities and Chiefs of the Yaigojé-Apaporis (ACIYA). As a delegate of the Indigenous Authorities, he was part of the team that built and consolidated the initiative that led to the establishment of the Yaigojé-Apaporis Indigenous Land and National Park, as a joint strategy between Indigenous peoples and the Colombian State for the comprehensive protection of cultural and environmental values of that territory. He is currently the Legal Representative of the Indigenous Council of the Yaigoje-Apaporis. He is currently leading the Yaigojé-Apaporis self-government and is in charge of managing the administration and political relationships of the territory with the Colombian State and with other organizations.
