Alan is a land use consultant at Climate Focus. He has experience in forest conservation, climate and forest policy, and landscape restoration. Prior to joining Climate Focus, Alan worked on finding solutions to deforestation drivers, novel approaches to jurisdictional REDD+, evaluating land use change science, and advising on policy levers and institutional capacities that influence sustainable land use management. He has worked for multiple NGOs including Environmental Defense Fund where he assessed palm oil and other commodity-driven deforestation in Indonesia, and IUCN where he identified forest landscape restoration policy levers and targets in over 95 countries to provide guidance for achieving the Bonn Challenge. In his free time, Alan can be found exploring Virginia’s many State Parks, and planning his next adventure abroad.
Alan holds a degree from Cornell University (B.S. in Natural Resource Management & Policy), and a degree from Bard College, Center for Environmental Policy (Master of Environmental Policy).
