Africa’s experience and interests lie in land cover land use change mapping, and ecosystem analysis including remote sensing of water quality. She oversees projects in Eastern and Southern Africa and is passionate about learning and finding innovative ways to use Earth Observations to better understand our world. Flores is also one of 11 change-makers selected to receive Microsoft and National Geographic’s AI for Earth Innovation Grants to apply artificial intelligence and help understand and protect the planet. She is Geospatial World’s 2020 Geospatial Woman Champion of the Year. Africa Flores is originally from Guatemala and currently undertaking her doctoral degree with McGill University.
