Adriano Campolina is an agronomist and holds a master’s in Development, Agriculture and Society, with a focus on International Comparative Studies. Throughout his career, Adriano focused his work on strengthening smallholder sustainable farming; promoting food security, poverty eradication, the right to food and equitable land tenure. His professional career started with a local NGO (REDE-Minas) promoting community development and providing technical assistance to smallholder farmers on agroecology & agrobiodiversity in his native State of Minas Gerais/Brazil. He worked as a policy officer for various organizations such as the Brazilian Rural Workers and Family Farmers’ confederation – CONTAG; the Brazilian Central of Labor Unions (CUT) and ActionAid Brazil, with an emphasis on issues related to food security, rural development and agroecology. Adriano joined ActionAid International where he supervised the work in the Americas region, led the work on the right to food, and served as a senior leader holding the positions of Secretary-General and CEO. Mr. Campolina joined FAO in 2019 as Senior Policy Officer where he leads the Rural Institutions, Services and Empowerment Team (RISE) and the Land Tenure Team.
