When people meet with openness and curiosity, new ideas take root. The GLF Regional Community and Action Assemblies 2025 united hundreds of restoration practitioners, farmers, Indigenous Peoples, activists, creatives and scientists across Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean. Together, they shared knowledge, strengthened connections and learned directly from the landscapes they are working to restore.
AS IT HAPPENED
In the heart of one of the world’s richest biocultural regions, the GLF Asia Community and Action Assembly 2025 in Indonesia celebrated the power of communities to protect their landscapes with 60+ participants from 12 countries. Participants shared locally rooted pathways for forest stewardship, amplified Indigenous and local knowledge, and built an intergenerational and intersectional vision for safeguarding forests together.
Grounded in knowledge from across the continent, the GLF Africa Community and Action Assembly 2025 in Kenya highlighted how Africa’s science, innovation and cultural diversity can shape flourishing futures for its people. 100+ participants from 23 countries, underscored that restoring ecosystems requires more than ecological action: it requires peace, stability and justice, ensuring communities have both safety and the rights needed to care for their lands.
At the GLF LAC Community and Action Assembly in Brazil, 30+ participants from 11 countries explored how social and environmental justice must advance together. Participants highlighted that in a continent shaped by inequality, tackling the biodiversity and climate crisis, as well as the sustainable landscape stewardship, requires solutions that guarantee good living conditions for all while addressing the underlying drivers of destruction.
