Mr. Gebresellassie has over 26 years of professional experience in agricultural research in Ethiopia and is the former senior weed science researcher at the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research. He has focused on developing agronomic and weed management technologies in highlands and drylands.

Mr. Gebresellassie served as national coordinator of the UNEP/GEF funded Regional Project “Removing Barriers to Invasive Plants Management in Africa” and has more than 10 years of experience in invasive alien species management. He has also been the centre manager for Holetta Agricultural Research Center and coordinator for National Weed Science Research Project (EIAR) and authored and co-authored more than 80 publications and presentations.

Mr. Gebresellassie is a founding member of the Ethiopian Weed Science Society, for which he served as president for three mandates. He has a BSc in Biology from Addis Ababa University and a MSc in Weed Science from Oregon State University, USA.
