Description

Farming vanilla is a highly labour-intensive task. Pollination is done by hand and it takes nine months for the precious vanilla bean to ripen. A lot can happen during this time - pests might destroy the young beans, cyclones might ravage through the plantation or thieves are after the valuable spice. Despite these difficulties, vanilla is the most important cash crop of the region and contributes to people's livelihoods.
