I met this herder during the field work for my Master thesis in Niger, analyzing land and tree rights and farmer-pastoralist interactions to foster ecosystem rehabilitation in the Sahel. I was just interviewing a farmer close to my study village, when suddenly a dust cloud emerged at the horizon that turned into a herd of about 40 cattle — guided by this herder and his son. It was the most amazing encounter until this day.
