The picture shows the situation at a gully erosion site in the middle of a densely populated residential area in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State Nigeria. The gully erosion was so severe that houses were falling into the gully after every heavy rainfall. There is an ongoing effort by the World Bank-supported Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) to rehabilitate the site.
