Description
A rare sight of camels drinking from earthed dam in Maroodi Jeex Landscape in Somaliland. Somaliland has suffered a prolonged drought for the last three to four years. A key innovation to help communities sail through these hard times was the water retention techniques. Earthed dams have carefully designed in strategic locations to collect run-off water from the surrounding hills. Silt-traps (compartment which receives run-off) have been constructed to capture soiled running water.
