Environmental, social and governance issues from investments in commodity production

The Zoological Society of London’s (ZSL) SPOTT initiative produces sector-specific, free and publicly available assessments of company transparency focusing on environmental and social governance (ESG). Closely related to a number of SDGs, SPOTT aims to increase transparency and foster informed dialogue between commodity producing companies and their stakeholders, with a particular focus on finance. The session will demonstrate how 24 of the largest timber, pulp and paper companies in high biodiversity tropical landscapes are performing against SPOTT’s assessment framework, which is the result of a consultative process with NGOs, companies and investors and integrates indicators from mandatory and voluntary standards and guidelines.  The presentation at GLF and the important interactions that arise from it will be part of new phase in the life of ZSL aimed at fostering long-term multi-stakeholder dialogue on sustainable forestry and agriculture.
