Afforesting Iceland – A cause for optimism

Has Iceland always been a treeless land? Can any forests grow on this island of glaciers and volcanos? The speaker responds to these questions by telling a story of the forestry in Iceland, including a short film that explains why considering the genetic aspects of planting material is key for resilient forests.

The film uses arresting visuals to offer a positive example of restoration work in very harsh and constantly changing climatic conditions. The audience will gain additional insights into the essence of Iceland’s sustainable development strategy which can serve as a model for many different ecosystems.
