Leonard Chibwana is a passionate GLF x Lilongwe steward with expertise in community-led land restoration projects, community engagement and capacity building. He is passionate about land restoration and the power of education to drive change at the grassroots level. Leonard has played a key role in several community and locally-led land restoration interventions, including mobilising urban riparian communities along the Lingadzi River in Lilongwe in an effort to restore degraded lands. He has also engaged in various knowledge-sharing and skills development projects including co-designing and piloting the Pan-African Restoration Education Curriculum, and organising several exposure and learning field visits for university students, front line government officers, and NGO employees. Most recently he has established in collaboration with the CIFOR-ICRAF Malawi office, one acre plots at STEPA Model Farm as a mechanism to engage surrounding communities in active learning interventions. He is currently implementing the ‘Bango Restore Project’ in collaboration with Dedza District Council with support from Malawi Environment Protection Authority.
