Prasad is a trained geneticist and plant breeder who is interested in applying various molecular genomics tools for enhancing breeding efficiency and developing improved varieties.

He has worked in diverse plant and animal systems for developing DNA markers, more specifically SNPs and SSRs and employed them for phylogeny, conservation, linkage and association mapping.

Before joining ICRAF, he worked in private sector as a molecular breeder. He is in-charge of African Orphan Crops Consortium (AOCC) genomics lab under SD3 domain and looks into various aspects of generating whole genome sequence, re-sequencing and transcriptomics for the 101 targeted African orphan crops.
