Athman Mwatondo is a medical epidemiologist with Kenya’s Ministry of Health. He is currently co-leading the Zoonotic Disease Unit for Kenya’s One Health Platform, bringing together animal and human health professions to address zoonotic diseases and other One Health drivers. Areas of priority include development of key documents towards prevention and control of priority zoonotic diseases, antimicrobial resistance and food safety, participating in collaborative research on the animal-human-environment interface as well as conduct zoonotic disease surveillance and outbreak investigations.

Mwatondo also supports the Director of Medical Services in the Ministry in the implementation of international health regulation activities, and serves as the focal person for Global Health Security Agenda programmes in Kenya. Mwatondo obtained his medical degree from the University of Nairobi and MSc in Applied Epidemiology from Jomo Kenyatta University.
