Christine Fürst is Professor for Sustainable Landscape Development at Martin-Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. She holds a university diploma in forestry (Ludwig-Maximilian University, Munich), doctoral degree (Dr. rer. silv., TU Dresden) and Habilitation with venia legendi in natural resource management (University of Bonn). She started her career as forester in 1998 and moved from 2000 onwards back to an academic career. Her work focusses on integrated modelling approaches for social-ecological systems, methods for environmental assessments and evaluation of ecosystem services as well as software-tools for facilitating public participation in spatial planning processes. Regional work focus is in Europe, West-Africa and South-East Asia. Christine is engaged as lead author in the Intergovernmental Panel for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services, regional assessments in Europe and Central Asia and she is part of the development team of the Future Earth Knowledge and Action Network Food-Energy-Water Nexus. Christine contributes also to the steering committee of the Ecosystem Service Partnership and is since 2015 President of the International Association for Landscape Ecology.
