Fiona has been living and working in Ethiopia for different periods of time over the last fourteen years, mainly on pastoral issues. She has worked for a number of organizations including SOS Sahel, Save the Children/USA, CARE, IDS-University of Sussex. Fiona currently holds a position that incorporates coordination and technical support to ILC’s Global Rangelands Initiative which seeks to make rangelands more secure for local rangeland users. ILRI (as with some other CGIAR centres) is a member of ILC – a membership-based organization supporting the development and implementation of pro-poor land policies. She also supports the work of the CGIAR Technical Consortium led by ILRI, which provides technical expertise to the development and implementation of Country Programme Papers in the Horn of Africa to build resilience, a process coordinated by IGAD. Other areas of expertise include rangeland ecology, invasive species (Prosopis juliflora), gender, conflict transformation, and participatory research approaches.
