Caroline Jacobs is a proud Makushi woman from a small village called Surama North Rupununi Guyana. She attended the Surama Primary School but was unable to further her education due to limited opportunities. However, this did not stop her as she strived to become a better person in life by continuously attending a variety of capacity building workshops when the opportunity arises in and around her community. She has a wide array of experiences in community natural resource monitoring and community capacity building. She led community project for women empowerment, economic management, community leadership development, record keeping and governance. She was also part of community stakeholder engagement protocol development and supervised a Malaria Testing and Treatment Adherence Survey among Gold Miners in Guyana in Region #1. She also participated in “A Participatory Assessment of the Land Tenure Situation of Indigenous Peoples of Guyana”. This was an Amerindian Peoples Association initiative with the NRDDB Communities. She is currently a Community Data Lab Manager for Community Monitoring Reporting and Verification (CMRV), North Rupununi District Development Board (NRDDB). She is a strong Indigenous woman rights advocate and has always been devoted to the conservation and preservation of our traditional and cultural way of life. Her vision is to one day be able to give back to her communities by assisting others and trying to improve their quality of life. She is passionate about collaborating with women and youths in the communities and sharing her experiences to enrich the lives of her people.
