Sam is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Edinburgh where he focuses on the application of remote sensing technologies for sustainable management of tropical dry forests and savannas. Sam has collaborated with forest management agencies across southern Africa on the development of methods for robust monitoring of carbon stocks and their changes and supporting capacity development for open-source data processing and analysis. Sam led technical development work on the Satellite Monitoring for Forest Management (SMFM) tools and was the focal point for their implementation in Mozambique, Namibia and Zambia.
