Deborah Sanchez is an Indigenous woman from the Honduran Moskitia. Her trajectory began with advocacy engagement in land titling movements within her community of Ahuia Yari, most particularly within the Miskitu People’s Unity Movement (MASTA). One of her greatest achievements in this context was providing field and technical support to the land titling process, contributing to the titling of 1.6 million hectares in favour of Indigenous communities.
She later joined the youth movement of the Mesoamerican Alliance of Peoples and Forests (AMPB), ultimately becoming its Coordinator of forests, climate, and biodiversity. She has also been the Interim Executive Director of the Peoples Forests Partnership and took on the role of Director with the Community Land Rights and Conservation Finance Initiative (CLARIFI) in September of 2023.
