Clement works as Marine Programme Officer within the IUCN Ocean team. Clément works on the protection of the Blue Natural Capital, including Blue Carbon. He notably is involved in managing two regranting mechanisms: the Blue Natural Capital Financing Facility (BNCFF) funded by Luxembourg and the Blue Carbon Accelerator Fund (BCAF) supported by Australia. In addition, Clément works on the protection of the High Seas, notably by participating in the UN negotiations on an international agreement on the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity of areas beyond national jurisdiction (BBNJ negotiations), as well as working on deep seabed mining issues. Clément holds a Master’s degree from ISARA-Lyon, an engineering school in agricultural, food and environmental science. Throughout his studies, he specialized in marine environmental protection, notably through his Master’s thesis conducted on the personality of juvenile lemon sharks, Negaprion brevirostris, at the Bimini Biological Field Station – in the Bahamas. Prior to joining IUCN, Clément held various positions related to international cooperation and marine pollution preparedness and response.
