Tuukka Castrén

Senior Forestry Specialist

Tuukka Castrén is a Senior Forestry Specialist and works on forest law enforcement and governance at the World Bank’s Environment, Natural Resources & Blue Economy Global Practice. He was a member of the team managing the Program on Forests (PROFOR), a multi-donor trust fund housed at the World Bank. After that he worked on the World Bank’s forest portfolio in the Europe and Central Asia Region – mainly in South Caucasus and Western Balkans before moving to the Eastern Africa unit. Mr. Castrén has been the task team leader for the Satellite monitoring for forest management project since its inception.

Prior to working at the World Bank, he was with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Department for Development Policy in his native Finland, where he first joined the Ministry as an economic adviser, and later became the senior adviser for development policy. He also worked in private sector forest consulting for many years earlier in his career. Mr. Castrén has university degrees both in Forestry and Economics from the University of Helsinki.
